LOCAL 9-1-1 AGENCY LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN TO REMIND THE PUBLIC
9-1-1 IS ONLY FOR EMERGENCIES & CALL IF YOU CAN, TEXT IF YOU CAN’T

(HOUSTON, TX) August 2, 2018 – Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network (GHC 9-1-1) announces that beginning in August, the public is being reminded about the appropriate use of 9-1-1 through several public service messages. The objective of this campaign is to reduce the number of non-emergency and inappropriate calls to 9-1-1 to ensure the continued successful and efficient delivery of 9-1-1 emergency assistance.

1. 9-1-1 is for Emergencies ONLY
2. Avoid accidental dials to 9-1-1 - “Lock it before you pocket.”
3. Call if you can, text if you can’t – text to 9-1-1 only when you CANNOT make a voice call.

Calls to 9-1-1 for non-emergencies such as reports of power or water outages, lost dogs, noise disturbances or keys locked in cars can tie up valuable resources for real emergencies. Help save the emergency phone lines for true emergencies—police, fire or medical assistance.
