RECOGNITION OF EIGHT-YEAR OLD 9-1-1 KID HERO
ANNOUNCEMENT OF NATIONAL 9-1-1 EDUCATION MONTH
(FRIENDSWOOD, TX) On April 6, 2015, the Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network (GHC911), the Friendswood Police Department, and the City of Friendswood honored a very special girl as a 9-1-1 Kid Hero for her exemplary actions during her lifesaving call to 9-1-1.
On March 7, 2015 at 3:00PM call eight year old, Victoria Grabowski, a second grader at Westwood Elementary called 9-1-1 to report that her father had accidentally cut himself on his wrist. She calmly stated what the emergency was and clearly provided her address. Friendswood Communications Officer Stephanie Price instructed Victoria to get a cloth to put on the injury. Victoria listened carefully to the first aid instructions and provided help for her father until medics arrived. A Friendswood Police Officer was close to her house and stopped by to assist. Victoria met the officer at the door, and also went out and flagged down the ambulance.
During the entire time of the 9-1-1 call, Victoria remained very calm, provided first aid instructions to her father, and clearly relayed information to the Friendswood CO so she knew where they were and how her father was doing. She definitely knew what to do and how to act during this emergency situation and is an example for other children and adults who need emergency help.
April is 9-1-1 Education Month. During this time, GHC 9-1-1 reminds the public to remember to call 9-1-1 ONLY for emergencies, such as the one that Victoria made for her father. It is not to report other problems like power or water outages or other non-emergencies. GHC 9-1-1 will be promoting this message during the month of April at local area movie theaters, and then radio and tv stations.
