LOCAL 9-1-1 KID HERO RECOGNIZED AT NATIONAL EVENT
9-1-1 CALL REGARDING AN INFANT NOT BREATHING

On Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at 11:00 AM, a local area Kid Hero will be recognized at the 2010 National 9-1-1 Awards Ceremony held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston,
TX. The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO), Plant CML and 9-1-1
for Kids will be recognizing several Texas children and dispatchers, in conjunction with the national APCO conference.

Our local hero is eight-year old, Julio Jimenez from Harris County. On April 16, 2009, The
Cypress Creek EMS Communications center received a call for a choking baby and dispatched
an ambulance. The call was from Julio Jimenez who was calling because his baby brother was
having trouble breathing. The young hero followed the instructions given by the dispatchers prior to the paramedics arriving on the scene. The medic unit arrived and transported the baby to the hospital. What started out as a frightening evening resulted in a happy ending for all thanks to young Julio’s bravery and quick thinking.

“Julio was brave and remained calm, better than many adults, said Tammy Parker, Cypress
Creek Comm Center Supervisor.

Cypress Creek EMS call takers Chris Blankenheim and Cecelia Noll will also be recognized for the handling of the call.

For more information about the event, please contact Sonya Clauson, Public Information Officer for Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency (GHC 9-1-1) at (713) 806-9495.
